  1. Hi,

according to a description on Rclone:

Rclone employs server-side transfers to minimize local bandwidth use and transfers from one provider to another without using local disk.

What does it mean with „server-side transfers“ at all?

  2. Files are transferred directly from one server to another, not from the source server to your computer then from your computer to the destination server.

  3. What kind of servers? Cloud servers or something else?

  4. Presumably they're talking about cloud servers.

I don't use the product but based on what I'm reading it's basically FTP type application for server. Many of these cloud services have their own non FTP protocols/API and this supports them. If you have for example server and root access you can install it and transfer/sync/etc your backups to Google drive or whatever storage service you have.

If you are simply looking to transfer from local computer to storage have a look at WinSCP for Windows. Most of those services also support FTP/SFTP. WinSCP can be automated through scripts triggered by Windows task scheduler if for example you want to sync local folder to remote folder or vise versa.
