Best VCR opinion

What really is best s-vhs VCR In terms of picture quality, durability and reliability in your opinion for let's say video capturing and in general.

You can name one for each brand like JVC model... and Panasonic model...

Read that before. But can't continue to talk there cause topis is old. That's why I asked here to see if anything change over time with people opinion of using VCRs today.

The answer is simple, there is no best video recorder.
Which VCR is best depends primarily on your tapes (condition, video content, ...generation copy, copy protection,brand.....) and the workflow used for capture the tapes.

Depending on the workflow, the recommendation may be different:
-VCR with Line-TBC & external FrameTBC-Capture Card
-VCR & DVD-Recorder Passthrough-Capture Card
-VCR-Capture Card with Line-TBC
-VHS Decode Project

or any other workflow.

The most recommended PAL devices over the years on various video platforms have been the JVC HR-S9600 & the Panasonic FS200. This is reflected in the used market prices and finding any in good condition will be difficult.
You should also take a look at the Philips VR-1100, VR1500, VR1600 & Sharp VC-S2000 series which are based on JVC devices.
With the JVC's (and also Philips devices) you should consider the dynamic drum, as this seems to fail more often and is not repairable, as there are no more spare parts available. (the only possibility would be to deactivate it - just search here in the forum for more information)

a good quality vcr , its better than the original vcr where vhs were recorded?

i just found same model of my dead vcr on thift shop but i skip it.

thanks for all the info. and time

I have two workflows

1. JVC S9760E - Elgato

2. HS-1000 - ES-10 (for filtering) - Pinnacle 710 (won't work with VD only in pinnacle studio for some reason it's rev 1.0)

And picture on HS-1000 is a bit warmer but overall picture quality is kind of better sharper than on JVC, but on JVC is super quality also with ES-10 and without.
