Is there any CODEC that I have to check is loaded and fine when using Subtitle Edit?
I have been using this program with Windows 10 with no issues for a long time. It has replaced Subtitle Workshop, with which I have video and/or audio problem. That is until I solve my problems with SW, which is quicker and easier to work with. When it works.
SW is a tricky program, and even with Windows 7 you had to follow a guide to make it work.
In Windows 7 I had stopped updating it, because when I got to some updates things went wrong with SW and other programs.
Similar things happened with Windows 10, but I always managed and was concerned with Web safety potential problems.
Don't plan to go into Windows 11, will change to Linux, because I would have to change my expensive hardware, which has worked fine for 9 years. But I should stay with W10 as long as I can, until I get familiar with Linux.
Anyway, my concern is now with Subtitle Edit and to make it work again. Any suggestions on what should I do?

Doesn't SE use directshow to play the audio?
You can check you have a filter loaded, (eg. LAV filters) by using graphstudio (or similar)
then hit the play button to make sure it plays properly -
Your version of SE is quite out of date. Try grabbing SubtitleEditBeta.zip from here.
https://github.com/SubtitleEdit/subtitleedit/releases
Unpack it to anywhere and run it against your current problems.
No installation necessary. If it doesn't work, delete the SE folder. Done!Last edited by pcspeak; 26th May 2024 at 14:33. Reason: Clarity

I need some tutorial to make the LAV filters work. So far they didn't help. For now I could get Subtitle Workshop 2.52 RC to run, and from my past experience I can't trust it will run with any file.
But Subtitle Edit still plays without audio.

You can also use mpv as video player in Subtitle Edit (recommended).
Go to Options - Settings - Video player.
If you still do not have audio, check your settings / volume for Subtitle Edit.
You can also try updating your audio drivers + (re)-install latest dot net 4.8 version
