I have a .webm file that has VP9 video and OPUS audio. The resolution is 640x480 and the display aspect ratio is 4:3. However it is clear that the video should be displayed with a 16:9 aspect ratio as everything looks too thin. In VLC I can select to play it at 16:9 and it looks fine. I do not have access to the original source video so I can't go back and encode it properly. Is there any way to change the display aspect ratio to be 16:9 without encoding the video again? Thank you.

I had been having problems with a couple of other tools I had tried, but I used MKVToolNix and fixed the problem in seconds.

The video has to be re-encoded to 16:9 if you want all players to play it normally,it may play fine by some players but if you play it on your tv it will play at 4:3.

I played it on my TV using my NVIDIA Shield and used 2 different players (VLC and Kodi) and they both played it 16:9. I mainly just use those two players so I'm not sure if other players might still play it 4:3. Thanks.

Might be that the file was 16:9 but flagged as 4:3.Have you tried playing the file on the tv's video player?
