Why has DVD player begun saying, "Set 1" (Panasonic Model: DMP-BD60)

I haven't posted in this forumin a long time. .
I had bought, brand new, Panasonic Model: DMP-BD60 serial number: "VA9FCoo4o76 A June 2009", in around 2010.
Worked beautifully, until today. I came home and put in a DVD movie and it started playing it, but the machine wouldn't respond to its own remote control, except for Pause and Display and a few other things. I put in new batteries and confirmed they are new. And suddenly, every button I press now causes the machine to display "Set 1".
So, following what I thought was a solution I read online, I pressed and held the number 1 button and the OK button for 5 seconds, but the problem remained. So I tried 10 seconds and even longer, but the nachine continues to say, "Set 1". I even tried the reverse. I even took the batteries out and held down bottoms to drain the remote, and tried to reset the machine which caused it to ask me which language to choose from - but I can't even choose English, because it keeps saying "Set 1"!

I am very frustrated with what's happened. Please help!
I'll appreciate any help to get it working again.

I understand - the manual says to:
SET  (“ ” stands for a number.)
The remote control and main unit are using different codes. Change the code on the remote control.
Press and hold [OK] and the indicated number button at the same time for more than 5 seconds

Assuming, for some reason, the remote and the DVD player no longer communicate - have you tried using the buttons on the machine to see if the player still works OK? If the player works OK with the buttons, try and different remote.

The remote must be communicating something to the DVD player, because it causes it to display "Set 1" for every button, except for these buttons that have stopped sending anything: 1, Open/Close, cancel, status, sub menu. I placed a AM radio next to the remote and those are the only buttons that don't cause a noise on the radio and it's the same ones that don't cause the player to say, Set 1, but also don't do anything (this means button 1 no longer works). I don't have any other remote to operate this player. Yes, all buttons on the player still function. It keeps asking to set the language but is displaying Set 1. I can only play a disc when putting in the disc and using the tiny buttons under the front panel.
I can't understand what caused this problem and why the solution won't work. Could it be because button 1 is one of the buttons that have stopped working?

The simplest solution would be to buy a universal remote that can be programed to the Panasonic code. They are not expensive. OR have a look on EBay for a remote.

If the remote control code can not be changed you can try to set the player back to factory default?
It then should be set to remote code 1 i think?

From the manual Troubleshooting guide:

To return to the factory preset (No setting):
Reset the unit as follows:
1 Press [POWER] on the unit to turn off the unit.
2 Press and hold [STILL] and press [POWER] and [ OPEN/CLOSE] on the unit at the same time
for more than 5 seconds until “HELLO” is displayed on the unit.
3 The power is turned on and then turned off automatically.

You have set the remote control to "DVD 2" mode (Panasonic remote controls can be set to different modes so that they do not interfere with each other when you have 2 Panasonic devices). Set it back to mode 1 (manual, page 41).

I already reset the player to factory default. After thongs got worst, by the player always showing Set 1 when most remote buttons are pressed except for the buttons that have stopped doing anything.

I tried several times . In different ways ; pressing and holding OK and 1 buttons, and even 1 and OK buttons and even the 2 buttons, for many seconds. . It did absolutely nothing. The remote continues to no longer send anything for button 1 and the few other buttons I mentioned on April 25th. Those buttons have mysteriously stoped working.
I took the remote apart and see that all contacts on the rubber pads are alright and I don't see any cracks in the thin circuit board. It somehow has gotten deprogramed to stop those particular buttons to work. Placing a AM radio next to the remote shows this. So it must be the remote. I've come across a few other posts online where others have reported that the method in the instruction manual don't work for them.
