Just looking for information:
I have 2 hardware media players, Dune & Argosy. Both have two usb inputs and one internal (sata hdd) input.
I use usb input for hdds with 1T 2½" usb cases. They last a long time as they are only 'read'. Once full, 99% are are *.iso's.
I have all my music (mp-3's) on a thumb drive I plug into the 2nd usb port.
The hdds are from the time when (WD) drives automaticly would 'spin down' after IDK, 30 seconds or less, only power used is the light on the player, even the usb case light goes out. When continuing to watch, movie continues, but then 'pauses' till the hdd 'spools' up. & movie continues, fine!
Finally, the Question! If I leave a thumb drive plugged in all of time (power on), what kind of power draw is there on the thumb drive when I'm accessing the hdd? Any 'wearing out/aging'? of the thumb drive if its plugged in ie "5 v usb power applied"?
Hdd shuts down, no probelmo! What about the thumb drive? ← "both players"
Its easy enough to plug in the thumb, Am I worrying for nothing?
I prefer the Argosy, 'cause of its remote controls elegant simplicity.
I use the Dune 'cause of its ability to view 'letter-boxed' movies in 'full screen' 16-9 and or "135-1 wide screen".
No great concern, "I just want to know"
Thanks, someone, plural, allus has a good answer here!

Selur: thanks!
I am surprised they use that much power 'at idle'
(I followed all the links! Some info a bit over my head, but in my defense I drove bulldozers for a living)
