  1. I want to use VideoReDo to convert a retail PAL DVD I have to NTSC. The video contents are 720x576 25i (50fps interlaced). I want to keep the menu untouched but downscale it to 480i. Is there any way to do this? If not with VideoReDo, what software can do this?

A quick 'Google' suggests various s/w that claims to do this. However, having never tried, I can not vouch for them.

Some links come back to this forum such as :-

So you will quickly read that, apart from the main movie, it is not an easy task and maybe not worth the effort.

In fact the simplest thing is to play your PAL dvd in VLC and watch on your PC. No need to worry about Region Codes, PAL/NTSC etc.

  3. Why to 480i?
    Recode to 720x480p and deinterlace.

    Excuse moi ?

The OP wants a dvd (me thinks). 720*470 is NOT dvd spec.

  5. And 25i to 30p probably won't give the smoothest result.

    Was a typo. Corrected now.

  7. For the video one option would be:
    - Deinterlace to 25p
    - Resize to 720x480
    - Slowdown to 23.976fps
    - Telecine to 29.97fps
Can be done in Avisynth for example.

I haven't tried it but DVD Rebuilder or BD Rebuilder might work. They allow you to keep menu and re-encode.

jagabo helped me to do a similar thing long ago with great results:

That was actually 30i to 25i, but the output was a video that was far more superior than the one that was coming out of Vegas at that time, for example. Something similar should be done just the opposite way. Maybe just need to change the SmoothFPS2(50,1) line to 60,1. Not sure, I am not an expert.
