Haha. I was about to post this but I've now noticed it's already been mentioned above lol. I'll post it anyway for completeness.

There's a few new shows (new this week) on My5 which are only offering 832x468 @ 1500Kbps, examples being
    https://www.channel5.com/show/the-yorkshire-vet/season-19/episode-1
    https://www.channel5.com/show/warship-life-in-the-royal-navy/season-1/episode-1
Another thing they have in common is no subs.

Not all new shows are affected, eg. https://www.channel5.com/show/forensics-murder-scene/season-1/episode-1

I've tried using both devine and freevine, they are both the same. Also, using yt-dlp --allow-u F mpd_url gives the same.

Are My5 starting to use a different API maybe?

  3. I've messed around a bit with Channel5, and I'm guessing that they've started using a different host for their newer HD stuff. They used to host everything in the same place, so with a small edit to the manifest URL, you'd get the HD content that was intended for Samsung TVs. But this doesn't work anymore. It might be a temporary issue, but I'd be surprised if it was.

Checking the endpoints for phone and AndroidTV, it's the same deal there. So unless someone with a supported Samsung TV is willing to dump either the cert required or capture the widevine stream traffic, it looks like we might be stuck. I don't personally use Channel5, so there's a limit to the trouble I'm willing to go through. But if anyone's got a solution, I'd be happy to update the service.

I've got a Samsung TV but I'd have to change the region to the UK to mess around with it. Rather not go through that again (done it too many times in the past), so will see what comes over the next few weeks.

I have multiple Samsung TVs with UK config.
What is the best way to capture the traffic? Quite happy to give it a go

The best way would be to have root access so you could really get in there with Frida and a debugger, but that's not always realistic. You could try setting up your TV and computer to be on the same network and use Wireshark to capture packets as you're playing a video. All we really need are the hostnames and URLs of the widevine manifest so we can see if they can be edited similar to the previous workaround. Or if HD is all L1 now or something, who knows.

Channel5 is pretty weird overall. It's a far cry from a top tier service, yet they have this weird protection. The web endpoint require AES key and hashed signatures to access their data, and their device endpoints require TLS certs. All to protect that sweet, sweet SD quality...

Ah the TVs I have are based on the Tizen OS, not Android!

I'll still have a go at capturing the traffic though

CBSViacom (Paramount Global) don't be surprised if they are using MY5 as a testing ground, at least it's not Pluto

Nice work. Looks like you're using playready, though. Those streams use a separate host with Smooth Streaming, which can't be used for our purposes in this case.

Interesting. Viacom/Paramount tend to use other platforms for hosting in addition to their normal storage. Could be worth looking into.

  12. It looks like it may be back to grabbing 1080p now. All the shows from the other day are now available in 1080p. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

Me too and I have been checking them every so often and seen they're now available in 1080p. Hopefully it was just a one off.

They're apparently gearing up to merge My5 and Pluto TV in the second half of 2024, so the troubles might only be starting. But if they (Paramount Global) decide to set this new service in the same ecosystem as Paramount+ and CBS, we might be in for a treat.

  18. May have spoken too soon, some of the shows aired today are available in 1080p (Terror at 30,000 Feet S01E04) but Rescue 999: Seconds to Save a Life S01E01 isn't.

  19. This has happened before, albeit not to this scale, where random (new) eps of shows or movies are SD for some reason. caught like 5 series where one ep is SD in a season. frustrating.

Would be interesting if they put more and more of the same content on p+ uk.

Rescue 999: STSAL is 1080p now.

Thanks for letting me know they must be delaying the new ones by a day or two.

  22. those that tested in android/samsungtv endpoint for ch5, is the audio/video quality any different to the browser or still 1080p/6k aac/96kbs

The 1080p/6k aac/96kbs is actually the Samsung quality, while the browser/phone/other devices are intended to be SD. The only reason we're getting 1080p in the scripts is because we edit the manifest URL. So there's no difference in that sense.

    Good news regarding My5.

Has anybody got the ability to download from Amazon Prime Music using devine? Note, Music, not Video. What would be really good would be the ability to download individual tracks, or a complete album or a playlist that I create within the site.

I do know this info cannot be displayed in the forums (Amazon Music is a subscription site), but a DM would be absolutely brilliant

I've tried to NOT download using
devine dl --skip-dl --export mypath DSCP showname
but it just gives me the finger and downloads regardless.

    Anything I'm doing wrong?

  26. The probable reason why Channel 5 has been messing with things:

Channel 5 and its streaming service My5 are set to relaunch in 2025 under a unified parent brand titled 5.

Designed to unite its linear, streaming and digital platforms under one banner, 5 will also include a new and improved streaming product with FAST channels and additional content.

It is understood that the relaunch will happen in Q1 of next year and that it supersedes previous plans to merge My5 with Pluto TV into a single streaming service.

As part of the relaunch, the streaming service of 5 will be given a new user interface as well as a significantly expanded content offering to complement its current drama originals and unscripted programming. This includes content from across the wider Paramount family including MTV Entertainment Studios, CBS and Comedy Central as well as a number of Paramount+ programmes.

There will also be a significant kids and family offering from Milkshake! and Nickelodeon.

Under 5, the broadcaster will also offer specially curated FAST channels for the first time.

The relaunch comes as My5 boosted its viewing by over 40% in the first half of this year.

Sarah Rose, president of Channel 5 and UK regional lead for Paramount, said that the team has seen “record growth for My5 viewing over the last three years and, as more of our audience discover streaming, we think it’s the right time to have a much closer relationship between our linear and streaming services.”

Paramount UK’s chief content officer Ben Frow said: “We know from the success that so many of our Channel 5 shows have had on Netflix that there’s a huge appetite for our content in the streaming world.  As we relaunch as 5, our streaming service will be a much bigger and broader offer than My5 with a significantly expanded range of content including new series and box sets in reality, drama, factual and kids from across the Paramount family.”

Paramount+ will continue as a stand alone service in the UK alongside Pluto TV.

I'm also getting fingers from DSCP, I believe it was forewarned that some of the sports / Olympic links might get troublesome. I've no issues on normal episodes, but when trying to grab a couple of the Olympic links the video and audio never seem to mux properly, I'm then left with an unusable audio file that won't import to mkvtoolnix, so I can't manually mux either.

    Code:
         1 Video
         └── [H.264, SDR] | en-GB | 1280x720 @ 5420 kb/s, 50.000 FPS
              ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ • 04:30 • Downloaded
         1 Audio
         └── [AAC] | en | 2.0
              ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ • 05:36 • Downloaded

         Track downloads finished in 5m43s
No Closed Captions were found in Video track 1
Failed to Mux video to Matroska file (2)
         Multiplexing... ⠇ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ •
I've tried the --skip-dl command to see if any keys appear, but the same happens to me in that in appears to dl away and I don't get any keys to take elsewhere.

I have managed to grab x1 cycling session (it just worked), but the remainder I've tried won't drop in. I'll keep tinkering - this is not a complaint. I'm very appreciative of the service, and as I say, I've no issues on normal stuff, but the sport doesn't play ball.

UPDATE: I've played with the audio file from the above failure, passed it through a simple re-encode and it's now muxable. So with a fiddle and a poke, I'm hoping to get the last few sessions to watch through Plex etc.

I've tried a handful of Olympic videos and experience no issues. Perhaps you could try 'devine --debug dl restofcommand' to see if you get any clues. The muxing is handled by Devine and mkvmerge, so there's not much I can do about it in the service code itself. At least when I can't reproduce your error.

And the '--skip-dl' command is meant to license the decryption keys without downloading the content. DSCP currently use mainly unencrypted streams, so there are no keys to get and it'll instead proceed to download.

    Thanks stabbedbybrick, always appreciated.

I've just tried one of the Athletics events, it rattled through fine first time!? I've already gone through the Cycling I missed, fixed the audio and self-muxed. Whether it was just those or not, who knows, I'll try the --debug though when I'm next playing just to see if it gives me a steer.
