  1. What exactly is a Divx file? I see where you can convert it and everything else but I can find what exactly a Divx file is. And how would you know if you had one? Just wondering.

    Thanks Boxingjunkie

    Hi there,

    Quote From http://www.divxnetworks.com:
DivX™ is a digital video compression technology based on the ISO MPEG-4 standard. It provides broadband performance that is significantly superior to competitive technologies, allowing DVD-quality downloads of a typical 90-minute feature film in less than 30 minutes through existing broadband connections.
DivX movies have an AVI extension, but that doesn't mean that all AVI are DivX. To know for sure if your movie is a DivX, open it with VirtualDub, then File > File Information. If the file is a DivX, you'll see DivX ;) next to "Decompressor".

    Hope this can help

    - I have a dream: 1,000,000,000,000 bytes free.
    - The box said: 'install on Windows XP, 2003 or better'. So I installed it on Linux.

  3. keep in mind that divx is only one of the compressions based on MPEG-4...i believe nAVI and asf are both MPEG-4 (and also .avi)...but of much lesser quality than true divx
