Blank 4K UHD Discs?

Are there any blank 4K UHD discs out there with a HEVC codec I could use to burn 4K HDR movies onto? Where can I find some?

Codec is irrelevant, bitrate is. My understanding is that standard BD-R are not designed for bitrate higher than 40 Mbps. BDXL have higher capacity AND allow higher bitrate. My educated guess is that you need BDXL.

TLDR version:
Some UHD Blu-ray players can play UHD Blu-ray on BDXL media but others don't. Those that can are sometimes limited to movies that occupy up to 66GB, the first two layers on the disc.

Although BDXL media has sufficient capacity for UHD Blu-ray, the official UHD Blu-ray spec only covers pressed media, so UHD Blu-ray players are not required to read UHD Blu-ray movies on burned media.

Verbatim BDXL media can be found on Amazon but it isn't cheap. Some people get a few BDXL-RE discs to practice with since they are re-writable.

You can try doing that but the Sony-X700 can only play media files from USB, not complete discs, either as file-and-folder structures or ISO files. I don't recall if I tried playing any UHD video files with HDR or not. I mainly bought the Sony-X700 to play my collection of original UHD Blu-ray discs, Blu-ray discs, and DVDs.

Don't listen to these guys, BDXL discs only work on BDXL players/recoders. Read the BD white paper, it answers all your questions.

The forum rules here are not the same as at blu-ray.com It's true that discussions involving pirated movies aren't allowed in this forum but as long as it is not obvious that the movies were obtained illegally, members can ask how to make a copy.

I have backed up a couple of my UHD Blu-ray discs as files to play on my computer now that Intel and Microsoft have removed the security features that made it possible to play them using the only method approved by the BDA.

The thread I linked to says otherwise. Some people are clearly able to burn copies of their movies to BDXL and play them on specific UHD Blu-ray players, although to be sure, not every UHD Blu-ray player.

i did some research into this a while ago & spent $ on both 100GB/128GB bdxl media to test on the 3 popular players that most people use and i own (latest fw back then):
panasonic ub820
sony x800m2
lg ubkm9/90 variant

^all players will play upto dual layers sort of. the closer to get to the 3rd layer, the more incompatible it gets, basically if you stick to around bd50 and under, it will work fine. but will not read the 3rd and 4rd layers for sure. so even though the bdxl media is triple (100GB) and quad (128GB) layers you are only limited to a theretical ~bd66 and under for dual... but in reality you basically gotta stick to single/dual recordable media. of course there is no such a thing as bd66 bdxl standard only bd50. so practically speaking it's only bd25 single and bd50 dual layers work.

some people who own the panasonic ub900 (hundred, not the 9000 THOUSAND) claims it will play the 3rd layer, 4th layer unknown, but i'm not about to add yet another player just to test.

this question wasn't about piracy, I only have experience with my own video I've shot on put on disc, i need to know so I can answer properly.

that means it doesn't work. Buying a triple layer disc only to use 2 layers to play on a specific player renders it unworkable, at $5 per disc, it's a much better, cheaper option to use BD-R 50.

BD-R DL is a cheaper option than BD-XL but 100GB BD-XL discs have 3 layers, so the first 2 layers hold about 66 GB, not 50 GB. Even if someone uses only 60GB for safety, that's still 20% more data than BD-R DL holds. Burned BD media doesn't support bitrates that are as high as what pressed discs support, but a little more storage could still be helpful for longer movies.
