I recently got a Dazzle to capture the XDS data on Line 21 to MPEG1/2 get dates on VHS tapes using CCExtractor. But I have weird artifacting on the video. I am using Dazzle 1.09 Software. It looks like a chroma issue.

Dot crawl. Are you capturing over composite? Try SVideo if your VCR has SVideo output. Also (and this is unrelated), you may want to shift chroma a couple of pixels left and up.

  3. Those are closed captions at the top. I think it's on line 23 in analog PAL video. The cross hatching is Dot Crawl, leakage of the composite chroma carrier into the luma signal.

To better take advantage of the 486 scanning you may need one of the pro or semi pro capture cards such as the BM PCIe and Aja cards. They do capture 6 extra lines on top of the frame for NTSC tapes.

This is an infamous lousy capture card, and has been for 20 years now.
    Multiple reasons.
