So I use both programs, Hybrid and StaxRip. I prefer StaxRip because its alot simpler and doesn't take along time to render.

I have been having problems with doing this. I have x264 at the highest quality (upscaling to 1440x1080) and it still looks like crap.

This is kind of annoying because I want to upload to YouTube (Yes I know YouTube will encode it lower quality but still)

Attached is what I am dealing with. The reason for Static(icky) video is the cable used to record this was.. not the best.

    NICK.AVI - Lossless avi
    NICK.MP4 - Upscaled & Deinterlaced
vlc snaps - another better quality tape comparing. Still bad.

The source you posted is such poor qualty, I'm not sure what you're expecting.
Also it's progressive, doesn't need deinterlacing

It looks to me like you've not actually "done anything to it", simply resized it, so it's going to look similar to the original, just bigger. With a good denoise, it doesn't come up too badly. I used the paid-for Neat Video plugin for VDub (and my scissors did a bit of cropping!), but I'm sure you could use an AVISynth denoise filter in Staxrip to achieve a similar result. I see a denoise option on your Staxrip screen.

If you take it up to 1920x1440, you'll invoke the better VP9 video codec in YT.

    Alright,
But what resizing filter should I use?

what resizing filter should I use?
In VDub, I'm using Bicubic -.75 because that's the first on the list.

I'm not familiar with Staxrip so the AVISynthers can advise what is best for resizing.

Can any AVISynthers suggest resizing settings/code?

Yeah so um, I tried to and all that happened (in hybrid, staxrip crashed everytime) it was either blurry, bad quality, or didn't export at all

Whoopsie, I'd suggest you post on the Staxrip thread asking about denoising and resizing. The programmer for Staxrip will probably give you a hand.

Likewise, Selur, the creator of Hybrid, if you can track him down. PM him initially, maybe?

Tim Ford does a good expose on using Staxrip to resize as part of an analogue capture process on YT. It starts here:

    Leave QTGMC out of it.

  10. Using SCUNet/DPIR/BasicVSR++, Spotless, MCTemporalDenoise and other heavy hitters will be slow and be similar to what the NeatVideo output showed.
You might get away with heavy filtering on cartoon based content by adding some luma sharpening after the denoising.
The best thing one could do is probably recapture this or look for another source.

Where is BasicVSR++ in Hybrd? Yes, I do have an NVIDIA card.

  12. You will need to add the torch-addon to use machine learning based filters lik SCUNet and BasicVSR++.

How do I do that exactly?

  14. On the download page (https://www.selur.de/downloads) is a link to my GoogleDrive which contains a README.md, that explains what the files in the shared drive do.

Thanks, those are quite the file sizes

  16. Yup, that is the reason why those add-ons are not part of the standard download, which already is rather large.

Just to clarify, I put the VapoursynthR65_torch_2024.03.07.7z complete folder in the Hybrid 64Bit Plugins folder, correct? Or do I have to put all files in the drive into Hybrid in order to get BasicVSR++, because I only get this in log

C:\Program Files\Hybrid\32bit\fonts\local.conf it needs to be adjusted manually to current environment!

  18. To use BasicVSR++ it should be enough to extract the whole VapoursynthR65_torch_2024.03. into the Hybrid/64bit-folder and overwrite all the files it wants to overwrite.
Hybrid will report that BasicVSR++ is available if it can find it under 'Hybrid/64bit/Vapoursynth/Lib/site-packages/vsbasicvsrpp'.
So it sounds like you did somehow make a mistake during the extraction.
