I have Firewire card installed in computer--works ok for capture DV8 video
to capture software--Question is can I use same card to connect a Firewire
Hard drive (external) to my computer? I know I can not capture video at same time as I dump data to firewire HD. Second part--which would be faster video data tranfer to external HD---Firewire or USB2?
thanks

Firewire is a universal standard, any firewire device will work with any firewire card or port. Firewire/USB 2.0 are both pretty fast so it shouldnt really be an issue, I would use fire since you already have the card. Heres a way to save money, search price watch and look for a firewire case, you buy one and get the software with it. Then you can put what ever hard drive in the case that you want! It would be cheaper than buying the same size FW version. The largest HDs out there are like 160GB now I think, for 300.00. And the largest FW version is like 60 I think, and its about the same price.
Put the box together yourself and not only save money but get 2.5-3 times the storage. A FW case is like 80-100 dollars. -
Thanks for the help., I did buy a Maxtor 80 Gig external HD, works great!
Firewire seems way to go in future.
