  1. Hello
I noticed that my s23 ultra has been recording all the videos with variable frame rate.
VLC can't play these files without massive lag.

What would be the easiest way to convert these files so that it maintains the original quality? Software recomendations?

Phones almost ALWAYS record using VFR. That is the nature of their consumer setup. It has to do with exposure compensation:

    Code:
Image brightness (Exposure) ∝ Scene illumination × Subject reflectivity × Lens aperture area × Shutter open time × ISO sensitivity/Gain.
Because lenses & their apertures are so small on phones, and one cannot do much to improve innate sensor sensitivity, you are at the mercy of 2 big sets of variables: Scene illumination & reflectivity, and Shutter time.
So if the scene is not really bright, the shutter must remain open longer than traditional cam framerate times in order to compensate. So it varies.

And the firmware of phones have been designed with that in mind, so sometimes even when the scene is bright enough, there is still framerate variability.

Certain models, with certain pro-like apps, can improve on this by setting variation limits, but even those are not foolproof. This is true of Android, Windows, and iPhone models.

If you intend on viewing them on a variety of systems, it is BEST that you convert them to the equivalent Constant framerate. This will, of course, require re-encoding, which is lossy.
This has been discussed here many times.

  3. There shouldn't be "massive lag" during playback because of VFR .

Is this VLC on a computer, or VLC android ?

If it's a computer, likely it's underpowered for the recorded format and that's causing the "massive lag"

What does mediainfo (view=>text) say about the recording ? What are the computer specs ?
