    Hello,
I have a small youtube channel where I transfer a lot of 80-90s rare TV programs from Quebec. In the last years I used a JVC HR-S7800U + Canopus ADVC-1000 but recently I got an amazing deal for a Panasonic AG-1980P. It's in good working condition and picture is a lot sharper than my JVC. I have a lot of dirty and bad quality tapes, all recorded in EP mode.

I know some caps are probably bad so I would like to know who can still do the recapping job for this VCR in 2024 and approximative cost. I'm in Canada so USA is not my first choice, shipping will be very high...

Here is a capture test I made between my JVC and Panasonic.

    Thanks for your recommandations.

I read that his shop is temporary closed and not accepting other units. Also I don't think he's from Canada.

Never use any sharpening mode in a VCR, You should set edit for less processed video. You can always apply better sharpening scripts in post. Try with edit and post screenshots you shouldn't see a noticeable difference at all unless the electronics are aging and start to drift values.

It was more like a test to compare their capabilities. Even in the other modes the Pana is a lot sharper than the JVC so it really seems it's a big win for Panasonic. Only hopes the caps will last for a while...

From the screenshots the JVC levels are too bright which washed out the details, Not sure if that's the VCR's fault or the capture card fault.

From the original screenshots, I don't rely on luminosity, I know when there is a gain problem. Something in the chain is equalizing the gain, but can't bring back what's lost.

The JVC image has something wrong, it can't be like that. Post a sample of the 2 video captures, with the 2 VCRs in edit mode.
