  2. Can you play other tapes successfully? All the same?
    Did you setup the player correctly? (PAL, SECAM ... )

    This problem exists for all tapes. Changing the mode didn't help N/M-PAL, SECAM

  4. It looks like of the video heads are dirty or the signal from one of the heads are not making it through due to bad solder joints or some other problem (or in the very worst case one of the heads are damaged).

    First order of business would be to try cleaning the heads. If that doesn't help, check the solder joints on the connections on the head drum assembly and head amplifier.
