  1. I'm wondering, if it is possible to have media-info values (instead of the one windows reads out) on the "details" tab in windows explorer. Is there any third party software, who can do that?

Well it's only two clicks from mediainfo's own gui accessed with windows explorer

  3. i know, but that's not the question.

I search for a possibility to show the mediainfo's values on the details pane in the windows explorer

  4. Right click on the label bar, select More..., enable the items you want to see. Like Frame Width, Frame Height, Frame Rate, etc. Note that these values do not come from MediaInfo so the program isn't required.

Yes, but these values are often not showing anything. For example windows often does not "detect" the resolution. It's just empty. But Mediainfo does.

And also there is more information, not only the same.

Isn't it possible to "insert" new categories, which are given by mediainfo ? Probably not, but that's why i am asking. Hoping there ist sth like that.

  6. Ok, i found "icaros", which can provide more additional information. I don't know, how it does that. Otherwise i would implement mediainfo-information, because mediainfo still provides a LOT more information.

Anyway: With icaros you can show some more Information, but it shows rating (this stuff, where you can rate a file by "stars"), which i always deactivate. So i created a .reg file for 15 file types, which does use icaros settings + deactivates the rating, which looks like that (when using OldNewExplorer):

If someone is interested in the .reg-file its also uploaded here (if you don't trust, open with editor and check). I'm not sure, if it is only working, when you use icaros, because the settings contains "icaros" in the name, when you check the single entrys. I copied that out as it is and only deactivated the rating-entry. Did it "only" for 15 file-extensions, which i mostly would use/see.

Not from MediaInfo. You need a "shell extension" that recognizes more media types and properties. Icaros, for example.

Yes, used this. did a comment above right now ^^

Do you know, how you can make such a shell extension? And where does icaros take the media-info from? Does icaros read out that by itself or does it use windows-information?

I would still like to have more information, which i still only have with media info.

Maybe it is somehow possible to use mediainfo to gather information. For example there is mediatab, which uses medifile information. But it does not change the details panel, only sth else.

Microsoft provides the information you need to create your own shell extension. You need to be a programmer, I believe.

I believe Icaros gets that information itself -- probably by using some other open source A/V libraries. If Windows could get that information itself you wouldn't need a shell extension.

I believe you are limited to the predefined fields that Microsoft defined. Ie, those items found in the big list when you customized Explorer.

  10. Yeah ok, i think that's to complicated for me. I take this version with icaros i think. But thanks for your answers.
