    In the upper picture, you can see MPC-HC showing cooler colors and a little washed up.
    Below, MPC-BE shows much nicer colors.
    I also checked with mpv and PotPlayer, both show colors like BE does.
    Why this difference? How can I make HC display colors like BE?

    The playback config for both players is the default one.
    The file played is exactly the same, an mkv.

  2. Is the source file maybe HDR ? mpc-hc doesn't support HDR with EVR-CP (default renderer).
    Try with an 8bit file to check whether you have the same issue.

  3. Right on the spot with the answer!
    The file shows a bit depth of 10 bits. Other files, with a bit depth of 8 show no differences between HC and BE.
    Is there a renderer in HC that can play HDR files?

  4. To answer my own question, MPC video renderer should be set in MPC-HC to play the colors nicely
