    1. JVC HR-S6850 (mode: edit) -> (SVHS) DMR-EH585 -> AverMedia ER330 (HDMI capture, HEVC 11mbit) + deinterlacing made by DMR-EH585 because Avermedia doesn't record 576i
    2. JVC HR-S6850 (mode: edit) -> (SVHS) DMR-EH585 -> (Video) DVD Recorder Ferguson (LSI chipset, MPEG-2 10mbit) + deintelacing "QTGMC preset=slower"

    Sample screenshots attached.

    Both are equally destructive.

    The answer is pretty obvious.

    There is something seriously wrong with the HDMI workflow; I suspect it's the ER330. My HDMI captures with the Startech USB3HDCAP appear to be much better than this. This quality is what you'd get from a cheap HDMI converter.

    As for not capturing 576i, this site says 576i is supported.

    Yes, but only with composite input (and it still probably saves in 576p - I haven't checked).

    I don't think so - it's probably a matter of good processing by the LSI Logic chipset in the DVD Recorder (I checked - it gives clearly better quality than DMR-EH585).
    I have a cheap HM grabber MS8129, maybe I will compare it.

    This time I'm adding a cheap MS2109 HDMI stick for comparison:

    - AverMedia ER330 (H265)
    - MS2109 (MJPEG)
    - MPEG2 from DVD Recorder

    The source tape is of low quality as can be seen in the attached video.

    Can Startech handle HDCP? I can add it to the comparison.

    No, the company told me it is was very strict on observing HDCP protocols. That was their response to my complaint that it's blocking home-video signals from my Panasonic DVD recorders. Ironically, it will accept HDMI for other brand DVD recorders eg Samsung.

    The "HDCP" signal from the Panasonics can be bypassed with one of the 2-way splitters.

    Additionally, versions after QTGMC (inputtype=1 for progressive material from HDMI devices, TR2=3)
