How do I use this program to make gifs and apgs with hardcoded subtitles? Can it also make image sequences?

Without knowing exactly how you want to create the gifs and apng it is difficult to give you a direct answer. There are examples on the manpage and on the gitlab wiki.

It can also create gifs and apng with image sequences or screenshots in individual files. But without a more detailed explanation of what you want to do, I don't know if it can do what you want.
