  1. I'm trying to download this... https://www.itv.com/watch/mr-bates-vs-the-post-office/10a0469/10a0469a0001 (and later i want the other parts as well.)

To date I've been following various threads and getting thoroughly lost with things that aren't available any more, moved on, that sort of thing.

Progress so far is that I've managed to get Stream Detector plugin installed and I am able to get a URL (firefox didn't want to install the plugin, but I "side loaded" it)

However, obviously, the stream is DRM protected so yt-dlp won't get it. I have Angela's PY script for ITVx but although I've got reasonably far, it fails with no android_sdk.wkd file. installed the Android SDK and everything I can find to go along with it (target is Ubuntu Lunar) but I can't find that file.

Grateful for tips please. I am new to decrypting so newbie commands and instructions would be much appreciated.

  2. Thank you very much for this. I'd be grateful for help solving the problem, though, as there's another few parts to the series.

  4. Hi msknight.

Read the below thread and download the app. It works fine with ITVx and is a great tool.

I made you a little video tutorial detailing how to download inndividual episodes.

    Tutorial: Dropbox Link

You will need the following software, added to your Computer's PATH.

    Software:

    shaka-packager: (Github link)
    N_m3u8DL-RE: (Github link)
    MKVMerge (MKVToolNix): (Link)

How to add to your PC's PATH: Link

This is the seat of a great misapprehension you appear to have. The Android SDK installed on your machine will make no difference to your ability to watch anything downloaded from ITV or anywhere else.

ITV's content is encrypted. You may download it but unless you are able to decrypt what you download you waste your time.

The missing .wvd file you refer to is something you need to create yourself. It needs to point to your Content Decryption Module. Most people get a CDM of their own these days from a virtual android device found within the Android SDK.

If all this is gibberish to you, then you need to do some reading. Having a script is one thing; having all the bit and pieces a script needs is another.
Noob Starter Pack. Just download every Widevine mpd! Not kidding!.

Thanks very much. I've got a copy of that and will look through it.

Thanks. I thought I was doing well with finding what the script needed, but I just hit a wall with that one. What you've said makes perfect sense.

I guess part of the trouble is that there is so much to read, and because things are moving so fast, a chunk of what I've been reading has been out of date. I'm just not doing this regularly enough to be able to keep on top of it.

Thanks for all the work that's being put in to this for other peoples benefit.

You want to learn how to download and decrypt individual episodes first. Trying to jump straight into a Python script is like trying to run before you can walk. Once you understand the mechanism behind how it works you can branch into the more advanced steps.

I started only a couple of weeks ago. Initially I used yt-dlp and mp4decrypt but these are much less efficient than N_m3u8DL-RE and shaka-packager. I'd recommend learning how to do it on a few of the different freeview streaming sites.

Once you have got the hang of the basics you need to follow this guide to get your own Android CDM (content decryption module):

Let me know if you get stuck. Having struggled myself somewhat over the last couple of weeks I'm happy to help.

It took me three weeks to struggle through to get the my own CDM with help from A_N_G_E_L_A.
Never give up is my advice.
