  2. Most DVD players have satelite link cpability to the Hypocrypt Numbering Center.

A simple check via the link informs it if the correct HNC serial number is present on the disc.

These linkups are logged, so be careful if inserting copied discs.

Real? Hmm... I suppose you have problems with your DVD reading your CD:s? If so, the DVD doesn't know that the data on the CD migh or might not be a copy, but what it happens is that the spectrum of the reflected light from your CDR is not in the range of the spectrum detected/accepted by the DVD, so it is [for your DVD-player] unreadable...
This is a common problem/feature for some DVD-players (for example Sony is [in]famous for this)
Try CDR/W discs, or if you have a Sony DVD, I can recomend the 'Viva Star' brand of CDR's. Look in th DVD-compabilitylist http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvdplayers.php to see if there is info on your player.

  8. also, if you're trying to watch a (S)VCD dvd rip on your dvd player, make sure you burned it using nero's (S)VCD template, rather than burning the .mpg as a regular data CD...if you did this, your dvd player will simply think it's an audio cd and try to play the .mpg file as an audio track

poopyhead's response "it doesn't" IS the real response.

Your DVD player doesn't know if it is a copy.

Your DVD player may also have a drive that wasn't designed to read CD-R/W either so this is most likely your problem.
