  1. It's funny when people hear things from others they've only just met on a channel and then believe their word to be gospel.

Ok so someone jacked SWE2 - and it's probably in circulation in China for like $10 in a special 9VCD pak - but come on, do you really expect it to be on distribution in IRC or on eDonkey or some sh!t??

"It'll be released at 12:01.." so they've got their own special premiere??

Ali G (or shizzon or whatever)...do you know this guy personally???

I'm reading this thread, having already seen the swep-se-* version (better than the halfswep and ff versions) 4 days ago and I'm wondering why anyone cares. Finally I read a sane comment! Kdiddy is right - it's a crap movie, the previous one was crap and it fails in comparison to anything good (The Matrix for example) - the story is hardly there- the characters have no emotion and I was hardly able to sit through it. It's boring. JarJar the senator? it's insulting to anyone with half a brain.

It's all the hype from 1977 - not because this movie is any good (which it isn't) - it's that everyone wants to be a part of something their parents were a part of.

Don't be sheep - it's ok to say that the new Star Wars movies SUCK

I'm sending George Lucas a bill for those two hours - he owes me for wasting my time.

  3. Personally I think the Matrix sucks as well.Typical of Hollywood to take a great storyline and dress it up in Pseudo cool, gel laden stylistic displays of plotlessness.
Try 12 monkeys....now were talking......or Dark City........or The Cube or any number of oh so slightly more demanding than your average brain dead high octane kiddie flick.
Bring back serious sci fi.... 2001 blew them all away and it still holds as well as it did in the late sixties.

While I totally disagree with your movie picks - I think we are both in agreement that there are a number of movies more deserving of this attention than the latest two Star Wars movies.

Hate the Matrix or love it - at least it had a story and suspense.

Even the 5th Element beats the last two Star Wars.

  5. I hate when its suggested that all films should be intense story driven novels. Whats wrong with intense high octane speed and destruction?

Fast And Furious - Speed and SFX
The Matrix - I must disagree and say it was an excellent film. The story was there and it was also executed very well. So what if they wore shades..you want them dressed like hippies instead? Or maybe james the butler?
The Cube - character based...yes it was good...but it was more of a thinking film. Nothing wrong with that. But sometimes I just dont want to think...just entertained.

Leon - blinding film. Very story driven.
Iron Monkey - I only ever watch it for the Kung Fu...-serious-

2001 - good yes, but the underlying story had nothing to do with sci-fi...it was just used as one way of telling the story.

Transformers the Movie - theres sci-fi

    Starwars 1 was shit tho...

  6. There is absolutely nothing wrong with non demanding high action films, except that there is a desperate lack of originality. There really are so few films now that priviledge dialogue over an mtv style of doing things.
I agree with Leon......absolute masterpiece......The tension is very real in that film and the director opts for portrayals of genuine emotions rather than people just trying to act sophisticated and cool. Have a look at another neglected Besson classic "The Big Blue" - this is simply stunning and unlike anynother film ever made. For me the hallmark of a good film is one where the director seems to wear his heart on his sleeve. Not simply sell out to the demands of the corporate whore.
I'll give you another good example of a potentially good film that was disastrously made. The remake of "The Island Of Dr. Moreau". Richard Stanleys vision was dark, twisted opted out of conventional Hollywood endings and was daring in its use of film techniques. What happens ??? The execs go "Oh NO!!!!" we want bucks and kids to go and merchandise and a million and one other formulaic conventions to be adhered to. We dont want challenging viewing, we want passive consumption.
Well Hollywood **** YOU. In comes Frankenheimer with his unpalatable piece of dross and the film relagates itself to becoming instantly forgettable.
This isn't about high art versus low culture. This is about appreciating new original and innovative ideas made by people who love their work and are not just after an easy buck.

Question of the day.......Which is the best Terminator ($6million) or Terminator2 ($60million or $100 depending on who you believe)
and justify as to why you like it.

p.s. my vote goes to Terminator - relentless cyborg, in a relentless film, with relentless tension.

p.p.s I'll leave you with a little quote from whoever provided the review for Leon on IMDB.com

to truly comprehend the beauty of this film, you must see the European Cut.

The U.S. version is still a great movie, but it cuts out 24 minutes which contain much of the heart of the movie and most of what makes the film a work of art instead of the usual action fodder. Elements of the story which are only hinted at in the U.S. cut become the centerpiece of the story when the un-cut version is seen.
I'm afraid I have to agree. This is a depessingly familiar story with American movie execs not crediting their audiences as being worthy of something a little more engaging

  7. I definately think the first terminator was better..more dark and truely frightening.

The second was ok...I do like the guy who played the 2nd T (cant remember his name) but he is funny (especially the way he runs in the carpark).

But I prefer Arnie generally as a good guy. Commando, True Lies were cool.

I've seen the UK release of Leon - I dont know about the cut made in the US version. Whats the point in cutting the film? Time? - so what...look how long Shinlders List was...Violence? - Thats why its giving an adult certificate...Dont think the viewers will like it? - let them decide - especially if its crucial to the story?

Back to the original dicussion - I think that blind violence is good when thats all its meant to be. When they start doing remakes and then cocking them up then its gets crap. Basically because it doesnt live up to the original (just like the Island of Dr. Moroaeesser - whatever).

Spawn was crap. X-Men aswell. Remember StreetFighter with Van Damme?????? ARGH!

  9. I tend to disagree with those who say episode 1 and 2 are bad . If you look at the other three you might understand why. They where never made to be thinking films, they are made for the average 10 year old, and are therefore action, special effects, simple plot line. If you want to complain about episode 2 tho, you might complain about cheaply and obviously made blue screens and alot of the computer made images just don't look anywhere near real. All in all it's not a great movie but the others weren't either.

  10. If you use kazaa, search for your movie and make sure the artist is TMD or SMR, I've got a few new movies off both of those artists and they're been the right thing.

I saw Ep2 today for the first time, the way it was MEANT to be seen...in a theater. Aside from a handful of utterly horrid particular details ex: overly CG look of Yoda, the treatement of aforementioned Jar Jar and what they did with R2D2 and C3P0, I thought the movie was spectacular. It was just about everything I had hoped it would be. I think the plot and character development are just about better than in any other movie I've ever seen but only when all 6 episodes are taken as a whole (you can fill in the gaps between ep2 and 4 on your own until 3 comes out.) Call me naive or shallow but I personally think Lucas' story is brilliant.

For the record I loved the Matrix and do prefer T2 to the first Terminator.

  13. Condorman rocks! Damn...forgot about that film.

Lucas's storyline for starwars goes much deeper than your average Winne the Poo novel.

  14. Best places for new/unreleased movies?

    alt.binaries.vcd
    alt.binaries.movies
    alt.binaries.movies.shadowrealm

always on. runs at the maximum speed of your connection I have cable and get 70-80kB/s consistently. reposts / par files as necessary. with a good newsreader you can stack films and d/l overnight/ while you are out.

with IRC / kazaa etc you can only d/l as fast as others can u/l and most u/l speeds are capped.
