Drug my old amscope mu300 out yesterday and found I couldn't use it.

Win10 cannot see it at all. Not itself nor with Amscope software which otherwise install and runs fine.

On Linux mint the software would not even install.

I found on Mint that the camera is seen by lsusb so that much is good.

But cheese cannot see it nor can guvcview. it does not have an entry in /dev/video.

I've emailed Amscope but I think they're on Xmas holiday. Anyone got any ideas I could use perhaps?

If the device is working and the cable is good, Windows 10 should at least acknowledge a device
when the USB is plugged in.
Have you looked in the device manager?

So I just took a look and it sees a device but reports no drivers loaded and can't find any. The software has been installed though, as I think I said.

So I checked for drivers and amscope's site was a bit strange. had images that didn't show. that kind of thing. seemed to have only one software required which is the one I've installed. but there was one place where it said you'd need directshow and twain. so i installed both of them.

It didn't help. I think directshow in particular is not supported on win10. when amscope gets back to me - after xmas I guess - then I'll know but I'm thinking the thing isn't going to work with win10.

that's alright. I can put up a win7 box if I have to.
