  1. I need a program that will let me edit a MKV file (delete a few seconds here, a few minutes there.....and when I chop out those seconds/minutes, the subtitles for those sections needs nuked as well) AND keep the remaining subtitle in sync.

I had to reload my system recently and could have SWORN I had a program that would let me do all that and it was dead simple to use. (Slight possibility I may be mis-remembering) lol

Or, I have the subs in SRT format.... is it possible to burn those into the video (overlay) without re-encoding? They are just forced English subs (for parts of the movie where a foreign language is spoken. If I could do that, since the subs would now be part of the video, using AVIDemux would be perfect.

I poked around on here and it sounded like using Clever FFMPEG GUI would do all this but unless I'm mega dumb, I saw no mention of how to mark the parts where I wanted to start/stop the cutting. The on-screen guide had shorts cuts for all the keyboard commands except how to mark the starting/stopping points. Unless I'm blind. (Can you make Clever FFMPEG GUI move to the next I frame when scrubbing forward/backward?)

I'm totally fine with paying for software to do this. The long list of programs I downloaded, that appeared to be able to do this, had zero, CLEAR tutorials on marking the start/stop points and I felt like I needed a PHD to get the job done as their GUIs were the most unfriendly things I've ever encountered.

    Any recommendations?

Yeah they do excist a few easy ones, basicly just drop the video in the program and it will display/list each single video frame together with the subtitle, if then delete an frame from the video it would allso re-sync the subtitle at the same time! i dont remember the name unluckily but keep looking, im sure ive seen one!

If you have exact timings you might be able to use MKVToolNix to cut the total MKV container, but you can't cut MKV files with frame precision. If MKVToolNix came with a timeline it would be a great utility. Click anywhere in the timeline to create chapters or cuts. A bit like the old womble program for mpeg files.

  4. Thanks for the replies!

For future travelers, I found this: https://github.com/mifi/lossless-cut and it seems to be doing the job. Interface takes a little getting use to but it's doing the job.

Still trying to find the other program I once used. It was like AVIDemux.... stepping through the video and deleting things was dead simple and subtitles (and their timings) were left intact.
