    Hi everyone, my sony EV-C500E deck cannot stably play my SP Hi8 tapes, constantly switching between SP and LP mode. By applying a slight pressure on the pinch roller assy against the capstan playback is far more stable. I have gone as far as replacing the entire assy (and pinch roller) with a brand new one but playback keeps being unstable. What am I missing?

    [EDIT] Looks like I can mitigate the problem by adjusting tension but I cannot get a stable result, tension keeps fluctuating, should I replace the tension band?
