    Hello!

    I am hoping you can help, I have received a video that has a file extension MV2.

    I can not find anything that will play the file, I have tried VLC, Windows Media Player and Media Player Classic.

    I just keep getting file not supported.

    Does anyone have any experience with this file type and what software is best to use to play the video?

    Thanks for any help,

  3. ^^^This

    Strange. Media Player Classic should be able to open it.
    You could try to rename it as .mpg or m2v and try again ....

    or upload a sample.

    No video file. Could be encrypted.

    It is CCTV footage so possibly could be encrypted. Would this mean only selected software will play the file? Is there anyway I can check?

    Thanks

    There are some references to MV2s in Google. "Gotcha" seems to be the program to open the files.

    Most probably encrypted, yes. Try to play it back with the same TV/device from which it was recorded.

    M2v should be simply the elementary (non-containerized) stream.

    M1v = mpeg 1 video
    M2v = mpeg 2 video
    M4v = mpeg 4 video

    and similarly
    M1a = mpeg 1 audio
    M2a = mpeg 2 audio
    M4a = mpeg 4 audio

    But if Mediainfo doesn't show any stream details, it is very likely either:
    1. Encrypted
    2. Corrupted
    3. Fake

    Thanks again for the help, the footage was supplied by another company, they have sent the file on a CD and a USB stick and both files react the same.

    I believe that they may be encrypted after reading all of your replies. It makes sense

  14. About mv2 see

    If it is encrypted it doesn't help. If it is not encrypted you can try to extract the video with a trial version of isobuster.
