Does using Huffyuv prevent frames from being dropped when recording VHS?

I used X264 lossless to record a video tape as a test, and even though my CPU usage was always under 13% and I had 0 dropped frames, when I watched the video after there is stuttering non stop. If it's true that Huffyuv prevents dropped frames that VirtualDub doesn't report, does Lagarith do the same thing? Getting VirtualDub to recognise Huffyuv in Windows 10 is very difficult.

"Stuttering non stop" , as in (forward/back/forward/back) suggests wrong field order during playback, not dropped frames

If you open the capture back in vdub2, apply deinterlace => yadif => double frame rate => top field first => apply and preview , is it smooth ? If not, try bottom field first

To answer your question, most probably not. Dropped frames are caused by your capture workflow hardware; a wonky signal coming off the tape (dodgy VCR or recording), lack of a stabiliser/TBC and/or a shonky digitiser.

HUFF is a pain to set up in Windows. Have a look at Hofmand's setup process on Github.

Or there are other good lossless options: LAGS (you've already mentioned); UT video or if you are happy to pay a few dollars, MagicYUV.

Use UT Video. Fast, free, many options (RGB, YUV601, 709...) Faster than Lagarith.

Maybe the file is good, but you have problems playing it?
