  1. Good evening experts
I have a VHS video with quality problems, I would like you to help me with a script for it.
How can I improve its appearance besides deinterlacing, it has a kind of noisy drizzle and some horizontal colored lines, is there a way to remove this and make it look better (sharpen it) etc?

Is that direct from the captureed file or has it been re-encoded?

Best to post a section from the original file for full analysis,
since this re-encode is marked progressive and the chroma is probably messed up worse that the original

I tried to send the original file, but it is too large and the forum does not accept it. I used ''MKVToolNix'' to cut, I believe it just cuts the video without encoding, am I right?

Yes that's good. The other quick and convenient way to take a short clip is to open the file
in AVIdemux, use the A and B buttons to select the clip then save to a new file.
There is hope for your file, wait and see what feedback you get

    Thanks for the tip friend.
Wow nice, I'm looking forward to it!

First of all, deinterlacing has nothing to do with improving the appearance of a video. It actually degrades the video slightly.

There are several dozen AVISynth noise filters you could try. Given the massive amount of noise, I'd be tempted to pull out an old filter I haven't used in years, FFT3D. It will lose some detail, but since there is so little detail in the video, the loss probably won't be noticeable.

  13. Most of the filters are available for Avisynth, but I also used codeformer which isn't available for Avisynth.

  14. I have to congratulate those improvements=wow. wish I had the patience to learn all that filtering stuff. I just use handbrake to the best of my patience and ability. Going off TMPG masterung works although I love its modius operandi
    PAL/NTSC problem solver.

    Ah very good.
Just one more question, what does this Coderformer do?
If I don't use it, wouldn't I get the effect you got?

  16. I used Codeformer (https://github.com/sczhou/CodeFormer) for face restoration for such degraded content, it didn't do much to start with + I used it at the beginning before all the denoising&co which also lessens its effect. So I guess the difference shouldn't be much. (I mainly used it to play around with it. )

Neat Video's attempt. Those white dots are only on single frames so I put "Dust and Scratches" on to "Aggressive" and maximum values.

One question, did you use NeatVideo on Avisynth? Because just this filter in Vegas doesn't remove these drizzles

Very interesting, but is this plugin only paid? I downloaded a version that leaves a watermark on the video

  22. As a simple Google search will show you:

    Neat Video Purchase

it is a paid plugin, $80 US.

While I have mixed feeling about Neat I will say this: pretty much everyone who posts in forums like this one seem extremely happy with it. It has a big advantage over many of the things discussed here because it is easy to learn and use.

I'm always in two minds putting up stuff that you have to pay for because I know that most of the power users at VideoHelp use free software. I wouldn't be showing results from full-blown paid-for editing programs for that reason (and because they are expensive), but in the case of Neat Video, it isn't that expensive and it can be a filter plugin for Virtual Dub, which is free and a video tool of choice for many. So think think others may be interested in what can be done, using a GUI, for not a large outlay.

Well, comparing the effects and price of Neat and Topaz Video (mainly noise removal), Neat should cost $800
And 80USD is a small price considering how much time it can save.
