It looks like this program is the answer to what I want to do converting DTS audio in an MKV to AAC but I am having problems. I converted one file and it worked fine, copied the video and converted the audio from DTS to 640 kb/s AAC 5.1 but the file was missing the subs so I figured I messed something up. I rechecked, made sure the subs I wanted were added and tried to encode again but 5 seconds in it aborted and said there was an error but I have no idea what the error could be and I looked for error logs but could not find them.

Does anyone have any ideas here?

Edit: Just tried a totally different file and once again a few seconds in the encoding aborts so this is a global problem and not just that one file.

Sometimes when Windows block access to an folder, an program can crash completely! have you seen any messages from Windows Defender indicating that Xmedia Recode have been denied access to an protected folder?

Nope, nothing. I even tried saving to different drives and tried different source files. I uninstalled and reinstalled but to no avail. Now no matter what I try the encode fails almost immediately. This is one buggy program....but it looks like what I need/want so I hope I can figure this out.

Ok, im sorry, then i dont know! It has happend to me with a few programs allso that theyre not working! The only thing that seem like an occurring problem for me that ive noticed that cause program crashes is the Windows Defender folder protection, which easily gets solved by allowing the program on the device (not recomended if it is an virus or some sort of ad/commercial-ware).

Edit: Did you try right click the program launcher an select 'Run a administrator'? it happend a few times allso an program had to few administrator privelegies which caused te program to crash. (If this solves the issue you can right click the file and select properties and from here find an box to select 'Run this program as an administrator', which will do so this program allways get launched with administrator rights).

If this is not working you could try uninstall the software and try right-click the installation file and select 'Run as administrator'. It is rarely needed to do this but can be needed to fully complete the installation successfully!

Thanks, but that doesn't work either. Now it fails immediately, not even 5 seconds into the encode. Unfortunately there is no forum for this software or even any contact info for the author. Usually I talk directly with the developer on these types of software and issues are resolved quickly but I cannot find any info and the homepage for it is minimal at best.

I had a problem in XMR involving the processing of subtitles. The program would eat all the memory until it was exhausted and the
    system stopped responding.
I could see it happening by having the Windows Task Manager open while it was running and watching the memory info.
Although the program is updated often, it's still full of problems.
Can't Vidcoder do what you you need?

That seems to be the issue but I am just trying to copy them, not render them. If don't include the subs then the encodes run perfect. This seems to be the only program that is going to do what I want because it batch processes and multiplexes at the same time...but I need my subs.

I have sent an e-mail to the developer in Germany and I will see what he says.

The problem was the subs....and I sent an email to the developer about the problem right after I posted it here and by this afternoon he had put up a new version that fixed the issue with the subs. So the program is working great for me now. I like it because I can use the same source audio stream and create an AAC stereo stream as the default and another 5.1 AAC and I can also import external subs and add them into the MKV when the source does not have them and then queue up 20 files.....one click....and when it's done all the audio and subtitle changes are now present in the new MKV file and ready to add to emby.
