  1. I use VirtualDub to convert MOV/MP4 to Uncompressed AVI for an old video screen display software that is very, very picky about what it can use file format wise. VirtualDub is the only thing I've found that does it. However, I've noticed its randomly inserting 1-2 black frames in the start of the converted file, which is not usable at all. Ideas how to fix, or alternative program? For settings I use Full Processing with Uncompressed AVI.

I've tried Handbrake and Adobe CC for conversions, hasn't worked.

What I don't get is the extra frames don't appear until after I convert them. So not sure how I could trim it off in VDub. Will try ffmpeg.

Reimport the AVI and trim them off afterwards. Use direct stream copy mode

Do you use MSU deinterlacer by chance? If you are clipping subclips to convert and save, select IN and OUT, then move to the point slightly before than IN point and play several frames until your IN point to "reset" buffers in whatever plugin stores them. I noticed this too, but it does not bother me much, as I use these subclips in Vegas to create a bigger video, so I just trim them off in Vegas.

Really, this is a bug, but I think VDub2 developer has not updated it for a couple of years already.

  6. Also try vdub2 . It might be vdub has old/outdated splitters and decoders causing the problem in the first place

What pixel format do you need ? What type of uncompressed ? What does mediainfo (view=>text) say about a file that works and is compatible ?
