  1. Hi, probably a daft question but here goes. When capturing I'm using S-video out of VCR into capture card, but I also need to be able to set certain settings on the VCR such as 3D DNR or profile settings which means I need another display. I have a massive old combi unit which does the job but looking for a much more compact "monitor". These menu settings don't display in the preview window of VirtualDub so I am reliant on external display.

    1) Is there any issue for capturing if I am simultaneously outputting via S-video and some other connection to a monitor?
    2) What options are available for smaller screen without needing full blown TV/monitor - is an old PC screen ok with the right adapters - SCART to DVI perhaps?

    Thanks

If your VCR can output composite simultaneously with S-Video use it for monitoring, there should be no problem.

Post the model number of your VCR, Some VCRs have one SCART only so you can't get two outputs out of one SCART.

I cannot recommend any adapter, that depends on what monitor you get, once you decide what monitor you are getting see what it has as a connection and find the right adapter.

  5. VCR has 2 scart outputs - I'm using s-video out for the capture so only need to use one scart for monitoring. Is any sort of monitor fine, like a PC screen with DVI or HDMI in, and then just get a scart to HDMI adapter if there is such a thing?

It's better to get an old school 4:3 LCD TV/monitor with SCART or S-Video input.
