It's the second tape I'm digitizing. The first tape went ok. The second one, I can only hear the sound of the VHS tape. When done, I can view the video and hear the audio. But I'd like to see the preview when capturing. What's wrong? I'm using Windows 10 PRO.

    I need help, please.

    Thanks

Adobe Premiere is not a great tool for capturing VHS, Use Vdub or AmarecTV.

Really? I see that their output codecs are top quality and have most settings that virtualdub uses. What Virtualdub has that in terms of improvement over Premiere?

They are designed for just capturing, Premiere is a NLE editing software.

Everything in terms on capturing VHS Premiere is good for DV but for VHS it sucks Amarec may be better because it is more stable and less sync issues. Premiere is great NLE especially for "modern" codecs and some cameras that has native support but otherwise use VDUB or Amarec for VHS capture then edit in Premiere

Can you point a good tutorial for capturing on VirtualDub? It seems not so user friendly for me.

    Thank you

But why Premiere still giving issues on capture preview? I've uninstalled, installed again. It worked.
Then, I ran virtualdub just for viewing the configurations, not for recording, and then it all went down for Premiere. I've deleted virtualdub and Amarec, uninstalled Premiere 2022, deleted the registered files using CCleaner, installed again and nothing appears on the preview, only the sound and the final result at the end of the capture.

    Vdub should be strait forward.

Well, the "format" option on video section on Virtualdub is disabled.

Also, when setting custom format, whenever option I choose, it says "the capture device does not support the selected video format"

When I try to capture video, another error message says: "video compressor error: the source image format is not acceptable (error code-2)"

It's odd that some settings are not avaiable for me. Why?Image

Can you recall the working condition in Post #7? If yes, try create a similar condition. It could be some driver conflict.

There is a similar post on Adobe Community. Have you tried it? It could be preference setting or missing driver.

I've already did that a couple of times with no success. What should I do?

DV devices do not work in VirtualDub. Those are lossy 1990s technology, and require old DV capture software like WinDV

NLEs always did a horrid job at capture (any capture). Premiere is a great editor, I've used it since version 5 (not CS5) in the mid 90s, but the capture mode is garbage, always was.

Why do you have a low-end VCR into a DVD recorder, then to a DV box?

A better capture card will fix this, and you need some form of TBC (with or without the DV method).

If this is the case, why not use either WinDV or Scenalyzer? It will be captured in DV format. Forget about VirtualDub.

DV format is good for Adobe Premiere Pro. Filesize is about 13GB for 1 hour of video.

Weird thing is that it was used to show the capture preview on Premiere. Out of the blue, it stoped and I don't know why. I'll try to install the 2024 version. Something tells me that the capture preview stoped to show when I've installed virtualdub

No they don't. Magix captures DV and HDV just like Scenalyzer, WinDV or HDVSplit: flawlessy.

Sometimes Windows update is the culprit. Anyway, Scenalyzer works great for firewire capture.

Had the OP listed his workflow in the first post this would have been resolved in one post, Lack of info always stretches threads for miles, Don't use vdub, Don't use NLE, Don't use HDVsplit, Use WinDV or Sclive.

It was doing alright with Premiere 2020 with screenshot preview during recording. I've installed MKV Toolnix while recording on Premiere, then the preview vanished! Reinstalled and nothing. I need some help, please? I've deleted all the register files and folders.

We told you to stop using Premiere. Besides, Why are you using a DVD recorder to output DV, then capture DV into computer? Wouldn't be easier for you to just capture from your VCR using an analog capture device?

Well, Premiere worked for me with the preview capture until I tried to install MKV Toolnix.

I use a DVD recorder just to transcode PAL-M VHS formats (which is my region) to NTSC. If I plug my VCR directly to Canopus ADVC 110, all the images turns black and white, so that's the reason!
