  1. Hi, I'm having trouble converting an avi/divx file to mpeg-1 (AVI2VCD). For testing pourposes, I'm trying to fit it in ONE cd, using the suitable bitrate (as calculated in the bitrate tab; in this case, 900).
Thing is, either with CBR or VBR, encoding with CCE, and with even lower bitrates (700), I always get TWO cd images, one 795 and the other 250 MB!
What am I doing wrong here? Thanks in advance!

  2. Hi,

You didn't really specify what the problem is that your having, mpeg 1 standard for vcd is 1150kbps so if your having trouble playing your clip that you made then try highering it. I have never really wanted to make a vcd with that low of a bit rate.

    Hi,

did you specify in the bitrate section that DVD2SVCD should create 1 cd for xxxx minutes?

  4. bluebolt: I'm just testing. I DO want to make a one-cd xVCD. I have no trouble playing it (when I use VBR, the quality is sometimes better than it is with the 1150 standard)

    xzarkad: yes I did. "Between 50 and *100* minutes, use 1 cd size *800*: 2047-951" (audio br:128)
I used 951 with CBR and VBR (2300-500). The result were two burnable mpegs instead of one. I tried lowering the bitrate to 700, and I still get two! aarrgh

For VBR, did you try setting the min bitrate to: 0, the max bitrate to: 1000 and the average bitrate to 950?

I forgot: the bitrates in the bitrate section are only for the video part. The adio part will be added. So if you calculate 950kbps, then the movie will be 950+128=1078kbps. This could cause exceeding the 800mb.

  7. I used max 1500, min 500, avg 900, and it worked just the same as with CBR 900.

I think the audio bitrate is included in the video bitrate tab: it's more logical, and the video bitrate values change when you change the audio bitrate in the audio tab.

Still, I used CBR 700, and it output those TWO *#$%& mpegs, the exact same size, only with worse quality...

Yes your are correct, my mistake; the audio bitrate is included in the bitrate tab. What I should have said: The audio bitrate is not included in your self selected average bitrate.

But I still think that you should change your average/min + max bitrate.

By the way; if you want a movie to fit 1 cd, and keep better quality, why don't you try a 90 or 99 minute CD? On a 99min cd you can have a standard VCD up to 99 minutes. (equals appx. 980MB in the bitrate tab)
