  2. m2v files are just the video stream of an .mpg file. you can load it into any player that can handle .mpg--you will of course have no sound.

    If you have sound with a M2V file, then whoever or whatever created it created a monster. As frenetic said, an M2V file is an ELEMENTRY VIDEO STREAM of a mpeg2 file. There is NO audio in an M2V file. Start backtracking to find out where the error occured (sounds like you have an .MPA or ELEMENTRY AUDIO STREAM file). How long is it supposed to be (minutes, frames, etc)? How big is the resulting file (bytes)? Also, what are you playing the file with - WMP?

  5. Also remember that just because the file extension is M2V doesn't mean it actually is. You can rename any file to have any extension you want. It's a trick that some people use to say that an mpeg (the program stream) is MPEG2 based.

  6. It is common for music video rippers to use the m2v extention.
    They are usually compliant SVCD and ready to burn.
