Can I use the OBS software with the VidBox, rather than opening the VHS to DVD 7.0 software? Is there other software that is compatible? I see some very simple, and inexpensive devices that use OBS and PotPlayer. Are they a better solution that trying to get this software and device to work?

Technically speaking, it's around the other way. OBS uses the digitiser In your case, the vidbox) to capture video. OBS will detect any USB digitiser that has correct drivers, so, if the Vidbox has the correct Windows drivers installed, OBS should pick it up. It's easy to tell: plug in your vidbox, fire up OBS and see if the vidbox shows up in the Video Capture Device list. If it does, you're in business.

Bear in mind though that, without a complex setup, OBS only captures in MP4, which is not ideal if you're intending to do major restoration work on your video. That said, you may well be happy with the MP4 quality for minimal effort. That's your call.

Alas.. VidBox did not show up.. although I’m not sure I was looking in the right place. The audio came through, but I couldn’t find a spot to enable, or look for, video. I’ll poke around again. It just might be hiding in there someplace.

In the Sources section, click the + sign at the bottom, then on Video Capture Device. It should be in there.

Success.. Thanks! I had to figure out why it was displaying the image from the built in camera, (me), but eventually found that there was a pull down menu that listed the VidBox.
It’s running now, without sound. Hopefully the sound is recorded, which I’ll discover when this is finished recording the video. If not… I’ll be back!
