  1. So I have been experimenting with the ffmpeg-vvc project found here: https://www.chosenfewsoftware.com/projects/ffmpeg-vvc/ and I currently have a number of my computers running many tests trying to find the optimal syntax for vvc/aac mkv files. I'm close, but still have have videos to convert and one of my computers is refusing to load ffmpeg. Strange thing is it's a clone of a computer that can definately run this version of ffmpeg, I cloned it after receiving the same issue with the old OS, and the same error code. So whatever is wrong it must be related to the hardware, not the software. Well either that or a lack of an essential driver. The PC in question is an Aspire 4733Z-4418 laptop with a broken screen. I'll post the full error code below but the exception code is: c000001d

I'm still researching what that means, it would be nice if I could get another CPU running conversions. I would like to post my data here in the testing forums and share my sample videos visa-vide archive.org torrent files once I finish. It's time vvc gets some proper support. I can take a 1-minute 1080p clip for example, I'll shrink it from 53mb to 2.4mb, but it takes time. Still, this opens the door to making 4k and eventually 8k videos a reasonable size. Anyway, here is my error code:

    Code:
    Problem signature:
      Problem Event Name:	APPCRASH
      Application Name:	ffmpeg.exe
      Application Version:	0.0.0.0

      OS Version:	6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1

  2. Ah yes very interesting! right off the bat, this article says:

In most cases, a corrupted Windows or app file causes the 0xc000001d error. Other possible causes include the app not being compatible with the system, having outdated graphics drivers, or conflict with other apps running on your device. In addition, your antivirus can also act crazy and prevent the app from running, assuming it is a threat.

Since this is a clone of an environment where the program would usually run, and copying ffmpeg again didn't help, also my HDD has been scanned for corruption recently so process of elimination would suggest I need a new graphics driver. Cool, I'll give it a try

Often this error code is given if the program tries to execute an instruction not supported by an older CPU -
For example, SSE2 or AVX instructions not supported by the CPU

Yeah that might be the issue... video drivers didn't work. It's a shame, but I guess this CPU is useless to me for VVC conversion. Well, maybe I'll make it my main PC and dedicate the CPU of my other computers. I suppose it will be a nice change of pace to have resources available again on my PC.
