Hello all,
I've got an issue with my friends computer. I turned him on to the amazing world of VCDs and he almost wet himself. He asked me what the minimum he needed to start out was. So, given that they were on sale, I told him to get an ATI TV wonder card for $30. he did and the capture worked fine...but the sound was all fucked up. Every time you used the TV program you had to go into setup and reselect the sound source. And the capture programs (AVI_IO and Virtualdub had no sound at all) So, nipping the issue in the bud, I decided that his motherboard's built in soundcard was the issue and got him to buy a middle of the road soundcard to go with the capture card. This time the sound was excellent and you didn't have to go into setup every time to select the source. But here is the problem....both Virtualdub and AVI_IO have sound when the source is selected but they don't CAPTURE sound...I am left with a mute .avi file. The only way I have found to get sound is to capture to AVI using ATI's MMC which, as you know, is a VERY flawed capture program. Using MMC I end up with an .avi that is in a weird resolution and every so slightly off-synch (more so when played on a stand alone DVD player). I have never run across any of these problems when working on my computer...I'm sort of guessing that it is an issue with the ATI software somehow preventing the other capture software from working properly. Should I tell him to kill ATI and get Showshifter? I'm really at a loss...help me out guys...I feel like such and idiot...I told my friend "NO, it isn't hard, it's really easy once you understand it..."
Help me not be a chump,
Thanks,

You can try upgrading to a more up-to-date version of MMC, to see if it fixes the problem.

I downloaded MMC 7.5 for him because I read on Rage3d.com a long time ago that 7.5 worked fine with TV Wonder.....but when I installed it it didn't give me the option of installing the TV program....maybe there is some Reg workaround I don't know about.....help!

suggestion? showshifer
if he's not that tech wise you can set up a couple of profiles for him, and then its dead easy to use. if he wants to play around he can, and its very reliable. probably even worth paying for!! -
Yeah, he isn't very tech savy....which is why this is all such a problem...I solved all my own problems by reading and experimenting but I think that is beyond him. I just really have this feeling that it is the ATI software gumming up the works....God knows it's happened before....

p.s. I really like Showshifter.....I used it exclusively until I was able to download MMC 7.5 which I find quite stable on my system -
You don't have linein (or mic) selected as recording source in Windows. Double click on the volume icon in the bottom right (or run it from control panels).
Then choose "Options | Properties" then choose record. Make sure that you select line in as recording source, and then plug in your video source to the line in jack.
Deselect all other recording source options. -
Thanks, I'll get him to try that....I am also going to have him try an older version of TMPGenc to see if that helps his synch problems with the captures he is doing....but I really think it is probably ATIs...fault.
