Converting VHS to Digital Using Magnovox ZV427MG9

Hi,

Can I use the Magnavox VHS / DVD player to convert the VHS output directly to an avi file on my computer hard drive?
If so, do you know of software that will do this for me?

Assuming the device has some sort of output connection; composite, S-video, etc.
