Hi All,
I'm Looking at printing onto Black vinyl looking cd's.
I have a couple of questions, Firstly i need a new printer as my current one has died.
So, has anyone any recommendations for a printer that prints onto these disks without
constantly spitting them "OUT" with a cannot recognise message?
Secondly, must be able to print good quality photo's as well.
Hopefully, people are still interested in printing onto cd/dvd in 2023!
Many Thanks Guys

Printing anything on a black surface really doesn't make much sense unless you use white ink and I don't know of any printers that will do that.

Printable discs that are compatible with inkjet printers have a special surface, which is always white. Printing on n a shiny disc, let alone a black shiny disc is never going to work. As stated earlier, white inks are not available. In addition, the colored inks aren't opaque.
There are paint pens with opaque white acrylic paint but they may or may not work well for labeling optical media. Will they flake or wear over time? Will they damage the coating on the top of the disc?Ignore list: hello_hello, tried, TechLord, Snoopy329 -
Alps printers, all now discontinued, used dye sublimation ink ribbons and could print white and metallic colors. IIRC there was a CD tray that you could use to print on printable discs.

Be easier to get white discs and print the black background. Epson XP-7100, but be prepared to buy ink, lots of ink, not just for printing, but to do the "clean the print heads" ink-eating godzilla routine.

[Attachment 73861 - Click to enlarge]Hi All, Just to clarify, these are the disks i'm using.
As you can see there is a white centre which is the area to print on.
The finished article should look like a vinyl record. -
Same advice from me, Epson, but you’ll probably need to get a refurbished one, they might be discontinued by now.

Canon also makes several printers that will print on CD's or DVD's. Just do a google search.

Canon's PIXMA iP8720 is a photo printer that includes a tray that allows printing on discs. However it automatically detects whether or not the disc is printable. The question is whether or not the white area on your disc will pass muster.
