It used to work perfectly...but then I got a new pc with windows 10 and since then WinDV gives me a black screen. Add to that my Directv tuner was replaced and the cables weren't attached correctly. I gave up trying but want to get it working again. My mission this weekend is to get the cables connected properly. I just installed the legacy driver for the firewire card which was missing in windows 10. WinDV is using AV/C Tape Recorder Player to capture video. I used to have Microsoft DV Camera and VCR but it's not installed. Thanks for the assist!

In my experience, WinDV does not play nice with Win 10. Ditch it and use Scenalyzer instead. I have a Scenalyzer guide here:

Assuming you are avoiding the DVR fees and/or encryption from DirecTV, Why would you capture it into DV ??? Does the box have HDMI out? If so use a HDMI capture device, you get better quality and you get HD channels as HD video not SD DV.

I'm capturing to my pc and it's in the next room....using HDMI cables won't work. I have red.yellow, and white cables connecting the tv to my pc. I installed scenalyzer but only get the audio...blank screen for video. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

You can make it work by getting a HDMI capture device, Capturing HD programing into DV using composite extended to another room for more noise is like eating the buns and throwing away the meat patty.

  7. LOL I love this analogy. What dellsam34 is saying is that you will get a higher quality image by not using your composite and audio cables that you're apparently using. HDMI would normally work and there are ways to get it to work. If you do care about quality, then definitely go the digital route. If not, enjoy your buns.
