  1. I have a ATI ALL IN WONDER 128pro 16MB

I'm trying to use the guides for capturing with the ati cards and one of them says to change this that and the other thing. So I decided to try it anyways without changing anything and the picture got all scrambled which I know is macrovision I tried the mac hack with no luck.

So then I tried to capture with virtual dub and when I went to click on capture avi I got this message: No capture drivers.

Now I have a few questions
1.Has anyone got this card to be mac free?
2.Could my problem with athe ati software just be that I don't have capture drivers?
    3. I looked in the tools section for capture drivers for virtual dub and didn't find any am I not seeing them or can someone tell me where to get them?
    4. Is virtual dub mac free?

Any help would be greatly appreciated?
    Thanks in advance

tip: don't use the ati software, use showshifter. it has a generic wdm capture driver, which will work fine. don't know about macrovision, but what are you capping from?

  4. Do a search of this forum or the Rage3d.com forum for 'ATI wrapper' that will get you the capture driver that you need. Then I highly recommend getting ahold of AVI_IO AND Virtualdub....I prefer AVI_IO for capturing because it is simpler and holds your settings but Virtualdub is indispensable for manipulation of your captures.....all are quick downloads...you should be happily capturing within the hour. As for the ATI software...if you can watch TV well and capture with AVI_IO don't bother with Showshifter (it is a nice program though) If you have TV issues then by all means try it.

basically there's two different ways windows can talk to your capture card, as a VFW device, or a WDM device. the drivers supplied by ATI are WDM, which are incompatible with VFW programs like virtual dub. if you can get the wrapper to work, then yes vdub has tons of options, however it doesnt have a TV tuner module, so youll have to go into your ati software, select the tv channel you want then go back into virtual dub.

where can I get these vfw wraper for virtual dub?

I also read on another post that it is better to capyture in avi then convert to mpg is this true?

    Thanks in advance

i can't remember where i got it from, so ive just uploaded my copy here.

running it is simple, uzip the files to a folder like c:\wrapper then right click on the .inf file, and click install. hey presto Vdub should see your card.

  9. Yes, it is better to capture in .avi form and THEN convert to MPEG...in fact, if you want to capture directly to MPEG then you really have to use the ATI software (I think Showshifter can do this too...) but it order to get good results you have to make a very nonstandard disc. The best, IMHO, is to capture with AVI_IO (after you have the wrapper and installed it) using the MJEG codec at a quality setting of 18. I have tried Huffy and using and even higher quality setting in MJEG and find that it is a victim of the law of diminishing returns. When capturing in AVI_IO or VD you DON'T have to turn on your TV tuner software first...just select 'source' in the program (either AVI_IO or VD) and then hit the TV Tuner button and select whatever channel you want. If you have anymore questions just let me know.
