  1. Information:
I use an ATI All-In Wonder 128 capture card under XP Windows. I want to capture in MPEG2 format instead of AVI. The problem I am having is when I want to encode, cut/paste or anything else in TMPGenc or other programs they do not recognize the file. ATI writes to an extention of m2p instead of mp2. If you try to save the file using mpg or mp2 extention it will bring in only the video portion.

    Question:
Is there some configuration or download from ATI I am missing that will write MPEG2 files as mpg or mp2? Or is there an encoder program that recognizes the m2p file?

    Thanks

  2. My default mpeg2 captures is mp2 with mmc.

When you play the capture is there sound??

If not, check your audio input in mmc. My setup is audio cable is plugged into the line-in on my sblive card. So my mmc audio input setting is line-in. Check the the volume control and see it if line-in is muted.

  3. RaleighNC,

Which version of MMC are you running? 7.1? 7.5? 7.6?

You can just change the extension after you save the file (I do this, since MMC saves them as mp2, and I change them to mpg - AFTER I save them.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

  4. Using version 7.1 of MMC.

<You can just change the extension after you save the file (I do this, since MMC saves them as mp2, and I change them to mpg - AFTER I save them.>

When I change the file to mpg it actually gives the message "Invalid Video Source" in TMPGenc. In Virtual Dub it says "MGEg Import Filter: pack sycronization error". Plays great as is on PowerDVD, Widows Media Player, ATI File Player.

<When you play the capture is there sound?? >

Yes. Audio works fine as said above.

Basically I just want to cut beginning frames and end frames to clean up music video files I create as MPEG-2.

By the way I have no problems if I start out capture in mpeg-1 with the ATI card and TMPGenc. Used ya'll Video 2.0 compliancy set up as one of my custom setup files in ATI-TV Wonder.

I did mis-state on first email.
ATI saves MPEG-2 files as mp2 (Can't find a way to change before save)
TMPGenc recognizes m2p. (Changing to m2p or mpg doesn't work.

Thanks for ya'll help. Hope you can solve.

  5. I have the same ATI card as you are using and I have been capturing in mp2 and then cutting and burning on to DVD's with no problem. I only change the mp2 to mpg before I load it into Tempgnc. But what I have found is that XP and tempg don't always work together. My DVD's look just like the DTV .

  6. Thanks Woodman. I've tried it when I save it and I've changed it before I open Tempgnc. I'll try after I open Tempgnc. Could not find so called Stinky's program that I saw in another question.

  7. Try using win98 with new TMPGEnc 135. When you load it at the bottom hit the arrow and veiw all files. It will show up you don't even have to change it. Run the cut and join. save to another file and you will be ready to use spruce up and then burn to Nero or what ever.

  8. DannyBoo - Stinky's RegTool is in the Tools section to the left, under Capture. I have a similar system to yours, have been unable to successfully use TMPGenc to cut/edit MPG2 files. ATI MP2 capture files ARE MPG2 files, but not fully compatible. WOMBLE and M1/M2 are supposedly able to cut/join the ATI files, I cannot verify this.

  9. I have been cutting the ATI mp2 files with Tmpgenc the latest one. Have no trouble. It works with win 98 and sometimes with XP but not all the time. I then use SpruceUp to Author and then burn with Nero. Works everytime.
