    Hi all

I am a newbie here, but not new to VSDC. I am kicking myself because I have watched lots of videos on Youtube but can't seem to find this particular answer...

So, last week I wanted to make a video on VSDC. It wasn't for professional purposes just a bit of fun...

So, my video consists of 2 separate video clips, one after the other. Video Clip 1 is me talking about fishing and then part 2 (video clip 2) is a clip I downloaded from the internet.

So, video clip 1 is a video of me talking about fishing. That video was filmed on my Iphone 13. I then downloaded that video from my Iphone 13 to my PC desktop. I then imported that video from my desktop into VSDC. However, every time I import one of my own videos into VSDC I end up with Black borders either side of my video (see attached image). If I stretch the video out to fill the screen it doesn't look right. So, you can see that I have Black Borders at the sides of my videos (from my phone) but it doesn't happen with other videos (that I have downloaded etc)Image

  2. Hold your phone horizontally when shooting video.

Ok, so I win the prize for the silliest post of the year! Thanks Jagabo. Yes, I filmed in landscape and it is fine. You have answered my question perfectly! In the future, if I do want to film in portrait mode for one reason or another is there anything I should do?

With the camera held horizontal like you see in all feature cinema movies, you put your phone on a stand and either zoom into the talent or move the talent closer that way the background behind the talent should be out of focus. "Portrait mode" is really only for stills. Horizontal is for movies or landscape stills.

I'm not familiar with VSDC, but in other editors you can zoom in on a Portrait video so that you fill the 16:9 (Landscape) screen without stretching. Especially with UHD video, portrait orientation (2160x x3840) will still yield a decent Full HD (1920x1080) landscape movie.

But yes, generally try to shoot Landscape unless you absolutely can't get back far enough to fit everything in vertically. Screens are "wide" instead of "tall" for a reason!

Of course, you'll lose a lot from the top and bottom.
