bad picture

is there anyway to improve the picture? I made a vcd of a movie, and when I play it on my computer or my dvd player, the picture is more squarelike than anything else. Im guessing it shouldnt have a whole lot to do with video cards on my computer or anything since its the same way on the dvd player, but im not sure. is there anyway to improve the picture?

its not a bad file really. It plays and everything, but it has bad picture. Not exactly more squarelike, but you can see squares in there and its just bad picture basically. A lot of movies I have downloaded are like this, before and after converting it, I made it into a vcd, would svcd be better? I havent tried to make a svcd or anything yet.

THese movies are they from tmd by any chance?
Also if they are bad to start with the they'll be bad as vcds

what does tmd have to do with the picture of the movie? its smr...i dont really know what those mean i just thought it was a different version of the person who made it or something...which would be the best to get?

Well TMD is a group name, personally I think they are horrible to begin with and I don't download them anymore. I've read they use 20 fps or less.Standard NTSC vcd is 29.97 frames per second.

As for smr they are a hit or miss, Some people say they are a group but I'm pretty sure they are just a codec.

As far as making a svcd out of these files it will not give you a better picture.

what exactly can you do with svcd then that isnt normal for vcd?

when converting to svcd I recomend you only do this with a dvd rip only.
what you are talking about in your post is not good enough to be used for svcd therefore you will not gain any quality by converting to svcd instead of vcd

is svcd any different except you can make chapters? also, for dvd rip, does that require a dvd player on the computer?

vcd is mpeg 1
svcd is mpeg2
dvd is also mpeg2

ANSWER- Yes you can put chapters.If you read the comparison chart it will explain it better, Basicaly a svcd is similar to dvd, both mpeg2 but more space on a dvd and a few other things.

ANSWER- You can play it on a computer using a software player like windows media player.

yes, i know you can play them, but can you rip them without a dvd player? and for those few other things between svcd and dvd, do any of them have to do with the quality, because I made an svcd and dvd quality sure is a whole lot better when you buy the dvd.

ANSWER- If you mean can you rip a dvd that you own using a cd-rom drive then the answer is NO

ANSWER- The quality depends on the origial file if it is downloaded and converted to svcd then yes the qality is going to be lss. Now if you converted a low quality file tosvcd thinking you would get better quality then that is your problem. Bad qality in =Bad quality out.

so, in order to rip a dvd you would need a dvd rom drive? is there not a way to use a normal dvd player and hook it to your computer somehow? and for downloading movies, what is the best groups or something i should try and get, tmd is bad i hear, but what else is there? those are mainly what i find, then i have monsters inc. which in the top left corner when its playing says divx but i thought that was dvd rip, and that movie isnt out on dvd for a couple more months. also, one last question and then i dont think i have anymore, where do you find those better quality ones or anything? on kazaa its harder and harder everyday to find movies and on mirc there are always so many people lined up you never actually get it, unless your in a channel with not many people but i dont know any good channels with good movies that arent loaded with people.

ANSWER- You can hook up a dvd to your computer and put a movie on your hardrive you would use a capture card. I am trying to learn this now, I'm actually trying to capture some vhs tapes, and some tv shows as well.

ANSWER- Just get movies with other names if it's tmd it will say, I downlod (smr) or (KM)

ANSWER- Divx is a compression format like mp3's for music it simply makes the file smaller for quicker downloads. As for it being a dvd rip it could be a screener dvd , which is a pre-release of the movie usually given to video stores/ theater owners to see if they would like to have the movie in their store/theater.

ANSWER- I think you should stick with irc (I'm trying to learn myself), If you want to keep using p2p try IMesh or winmx. Imesh is a p2p that lets you download from several peopleat once so you can get the file quicker. Winmx gets the movies quicker than any other p2p.
