    I am considering using After Effects to create ambiences, as the video editor I have now just isn't meant for that. So, could you guys tell me 1, do you use After Effects in a regular way? 2, what operating system do you have for it?

    Yes.

    Windows or Mac. Have used both. Both work fine, and performance is roughly equivalent on equivalent powered machines, with matching recent versions. Pick your poison.
