  1. I'm currently encoding one of DVDs from a PAL series. After deinterlacing, I'm wanting to know the the best way to auto-crop and then resize the cropped video to fit a 4:3 ratio. Is this possible? If so is it recommended to slightly upscale the video after cropping back to a 4:3 ratio?

  2. PAL DVD is 720x576.
The video doesn't necessarily have to be cropped, it can be original 720x576 with a 4:3 DAR flag.
I would deinterlace and keep the resolution, so don't crop and don't resize, but stay at 720x576 and set the 4:3 DAR flag.
Alternatively you can resize to 768x576 without the 4:3 DAR flag.

Thanks. I wanted to crop because there are black borders on 3 sides and these borders are inconsistent/different for every episode. I'm not sure I'm doing this right but the solution I found was to go to Tools > Advanced > Event Command. I then made an event for "Before Job Processed" I set it to trigger when using my output target directory (so it's always triggered), I then set the command to StartAutoCrop. This auto crops all my videos in queue before processing them.
