  1. Hi everyone,

I'm just posting this question as I'm a Davinci Resolve user on Mac and I've started experiencing work flow issues when I go beyond just editing and grading. While I do edit 4K footage, it's in a 1920 x 1080 HD Timeline resolution, I also use proxy footage and I'm editing that footage from a Sandisk Extreme Portable SSD drive.

I'm wondering what the next step / upgrade is that I should think about, as I'm experiencing a lot of slowing down once I implement things like grading along with effects, masking and transitions etc.

    My setup currently is:
    iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2019)
    Processor: 3.6 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9
    Memory: 96 GB 2667 MHz DDR4
Graphics: Radeon Pro 580X 8 GB

I do anticipate that I'll be doing alot more than just editing and grading, so any help would be greatly appreciated! I've been doing a bit of research but still don't know whether I need a new graphics card or processor etc?

    Thanks,

    Al

Your system looks fine to me. I am assuming the Operating System is SSD not HDD.
Well you can try other video editors for Mac. Magix Vegas Pro and Adobe Premier (Not sure if they have Mac versions). They have free trial.

  3. Cheers for the response Subtitles. Yeah it appears to be SSD for what ever that's worth!

The only problem is quite like the general workflow of being able to do everything inside DR without having to roundtrip to Adobe Premiere and vice versa.. but it just seems strange that it's lagging this much despite having not that many transitions, effects and nodes when grading.

Which version of DR are you using? Latest is 18.5
Is it the free version or Studio?

Yep I have DR 18, I still need to update it, but it's paid for so it's Studio.

Please update to latest version. I hate to suggest to spend more money on another software, but the free trial would tell you if it is software related.
Of course you can always ask for support from the developers they might give you new ideas or solutions.
