hi, i use mkvtoolnix to remove chapters and subtitles etc.. from my dvd collection which i have on my media server.
ive stumbled on some issues with certain dvds. (only 2 out of 50)
the issue being when i remux the mkv the video will not play unless you disable hardware acceleration in vlc. this also affects the ability for it not playing in my jellyfin media server. ive tested the file before its remuxed and it plays with no problem at all. is there a setting which would be causing this?
many thanks
robbie

ive attached both media info, im going to look at the differences now. in this file one is a dvd ripped with makemkv and the other one is just remuxed with nothing removed using latest mkv tool nix, original plays windows vlc normal, remux will only play in windows vlc with hardware acceleration disabled. i have also used dvd decrypter with same results. in case it was the copyright protection.
thanks -
only differences i csn see in the above files is the
unique ID
format version of mkv: 2 and 4
witing application
writing library

I don't see anything obvious in the logs. I'm unable to recreate it myself, perhaps contact the jellyfin forum.

this is a sample i have saved with avidemux. funnily enough as soon as its saved it does the same as mkvtoolnix. its blotchy until you disable hardware accelerator in vlc. plays in mpc ok.

i tried one from 2015, same version lol. im wondering if it was some kinda copyright protection off the dvd. or woould it not play at all if that was the case?

i found this on the forum
"To answer the question about v4 to v2:
MKVToolNix GUI -> Preferences -> Default Values -> Default additional command line options -> "--clusters-in-meta-seek --disable-track-statistics-tags --engage no_cue_duration --engage no_cue_relative_position"
trying this though still produced version 4. even tried an older mkvtoolnix same results.
there is a bunch of different values in this area and i bet one of them will solve my problem. but working out how to get it to mux in v2 would be the next step i feel -
Have you tried the options in general/compression to see if it affects your plaback??
eg. no extra compression.
Start with a working file, make your changes and use the above option -
was getting excited thinking this might work, but no luck, tried all option under compression. will have another look tomorrow! will update if i find a solution

Using the same card with Linux (Fedora) with hardware decoding on in VLC, no issues with playback, no problems with MPV, only player that has trouble playing it is the default gnome player, hope it helps in someway.

jellyfin on firestick uses libVLC or Exoplayer, both will not play it. my lg oled tv (which is away for repair at the moment plays it no bother on jellyfin webos).
yeah the screenshot is exactly what i get with hardware acceleration on in vlc windows 11 and on jellyfin firestick. need to work out away to get the mkv into version 2 to test.
