  1. A previous thread in Videohelp mentioned Videosubfinder to extract burned in subtitles then (I guess) convert them to OCR for use in
    Subtitle Edit.

    Has anyone done this technique?

I also have found a website that shows this but wondered about any gotchas like using only Windows 10 instead of Win7.

It would be a miracle for a job I have if this works-- a vid made a number of years ago.

  2. Answering my own question... I got Videosubtitlefinder running in Windows 10.
I have to read the details of doing this but I put in a practice run just to see it do something.

On the back end I don't know how it saves anything-- clean video or remade OCR for Subtitle Edit.

It saves images with subtitles, then you can use Subtitle Edit to OCR them, I recommend nOCR method.

Btw, you can use InpaintDelogo to extract hardcoded subtitles too.

  5. Working with one program is enough. I got through a few steps of the procedure then the tutorial spun off into talking about some other program where I'd want to use SE to do the OCR work. Also I restarted the whole operation by accidently touching some wrong key and lost the work-- possibly.

I cannot follow youtube videos and have stopped trying. The nice thing about this tutorial is that it is in screen shots. But apparently it's touchy.

Where in all this is the video saved without the burn in on any of these programs? I've seen no reference to that.
Please respond if you've used this Subtitlefinder program..

Videosubfinder doesn't do that. But InpaintDelogo can do this.

  8. Thanks for answering that. I'll not unsubscribe to this topic but in case other replies are made. But I'm not going to
proceed with trying to get it working. I saw the collection of-- what is it ? one line pictures of extracted dialog. I think the whole procedure is a kluge but that's just me. I knew or suspected it was a hard thing to do but made to look easy.
